What is it like to study at a Victorian school?

Victorias education system and school environment is different to many other countries. Its progressive, relaxed and students are encouraged to take part in class discussion and contribute their own ideas. Students learn through traditional classroom tasks and the latest technologies. All students have access to the internet and most schools have sophisticated multimedia labs. There are seven years of primary school, followed by six years of secondary schooling. At the end of the final year students can sit for examinations leading to the award of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

In addition to the VCE, Victorian students can pursue a vocational path and study vocational related courses (called VET courses). A growing number of schools also offer the International Baccalaureate, an internationally recognised secondary qualification.

Students use these qualifications to apply for tertiary entrance in Victoria, other states or overseas. In most cases Victorian qualifications satisfy international tertiary institutions admission requirements.
