What subjects can I study?

Victorian schools offer an extremely wide range of subjects. Some secondary schools offer more than 40 subjects. English is mandatory for all school students; international students can study English as a Second Language. Subjects offered to students include:

  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Biology
  • Physics
  • Business Management
  • Accounting
  • Economics
  • Geography
  • History
  • Politics
  • Art
  • Dance
  • Media
  • Outdoor Education
  • Physical Education

Students studying the VCE can also study vocational courses through the government-owned Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutes. This can develop practical and professional skills and provide course credits for further education and training once they complete the VCE. Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is an equivalent of VCE offered by some schools. VCAL is a more hands-on secondary school qualification than the VCE.
